If you’ve ever thought about doing engagement photos at Discovery Park, let this be your sign! Seriously, this place is beautiful any time of year, but during golden hour? It’s hard to beat. Savannah and Nick’s session felt like one long summer evening spent hanging out together, and honestly, that’s exactly how I want engagement sessions to feel. No rushing, no awkward posing, just the two of you slowing down for a couple of hours while I tag along with my camera. Between the open fields, the sunset, and all of the little details they brought, this session turned into one of those galleries that just feels warm from start to finish!

Why I Love Taking Engagement Photos at Discovery Park

One of my favorite things about Discovery Park is that it doesn’t feel like you’re in the middle of Seattle. You have these huge open fields, trails, water views, and the prettiest golden light once the sun starts dropping. Every time I shoot here, it looks a little different, which is one of the reasons I keep coming back. For Savannah and Nick, we kept things simple and let the location do its thing. We wandered through the fields, found the best pockets of light, and never felt like we had to force anything. Those are usually the sessions that end up feeling the most like you!

A Picnic, Champagne, and the Sweetest Little Details

I always tell my couples that bringing something to do during your session makes such a difference. Instead of wondering where to put your hands, you’re just spending time together. Savannah and Nick packed a picnic blanket, flowers, and champagne, and it couldn’t have fit the vibe more perfectly. They laughed over a toast, relaxed in the grass, and even spent a little time reading together. Those moments gave the session so much personality because they weren’t trying to perform for the camera, they were just enjoying the evening together. Halfway through, Savannah changed into a white dress that looked so good with the warm sunset. Once golden hour really kicked in, everything started glowing. Those last few minutes before the sun disappeared were easily some of my favorite photos from the whole session!

The Best Engagement Sessions Feel Like an Actual Date

I think that’s why I loved this session so much. It never felt like a photoshoot. It felt like Savannah and Nick had an evening planned together, and I just happened to be there documenting it. They talked, laughed, hugged, soaked in the sunset, and completely forgot about the camera after a while. That’s always the goal. If you’re planning your own engagement session, don’t stress about making everything perfect. Pick a location you genuinely love, wear something that feels like you, and maybe bring along a few things that make the evening feel special. It doesn’t have to be elaborate, sometimes a blanket, a bottle of champagne, and a beautiful sunset are all you need.
